On January 15, Guo Wenqing, General Manager of China Minmetals and Chairman of MCC, met with Jean-Sébastien Jacques, CEO of Rio Tinto Group and relevant personnel in Beijing. The two sides had a deep and friendly talk on strengthening the cooperation in international mining projects.
Guo Wenqing welcomed Jean-Sébastien Jacques for his visit at the beginning of the new year and congratulated Rio Tinto Group on its outstanding achievements in 2019. According to Guo Wenqing, the business performance of China Minmetals continues to rise in 2019, with revenue exceeding RMB 600 billion, and profit indicators and various production operation indicators reaching the best level in history. China Minmetals continues to take the lead in metal mining in China, especially in the field of new energy battery materials, laying a solid foundation for the development of various undertakings in 2020. Last year, China Minmetals has also made significant progress in deepening its cooperation with Rio Tinto Group. The exploration joint venture by the two sides was established in Sanya, Hainan, which will further promote the long-term and sustainable development of both sides in mineral industry.
Guo Wenqing stressed that China Minmetals paid much attention to the friendly cooperation with Rio Tinto Group, prioritizing the partnership with Rio Tinto Group. He hoped the two sides made long-term strategic plans for deeper friendly cooperation on the basis of maintaining the existing partnership. Centering around the mineral ore trading center of 100 million-ton class in Caofeidian to be put into operation, he hoped the two sides oriented themselves towards "large trade" to further expand and optimize kinds of trade, expand trade scale, and improve the level and quality of mineral trade cooperation. In resource exploration, he hoped that both sides would take the establishment of Minmetals Rio Tinto Exploration Co., Ltd. as an opportunity to further strengthen the exploration and development of metal mineral resources around the world and make breakthroughs in mine exploration and mineral resources acquisition as soon as possible. He added that the two sides should also strengthen close communication and effective connection in international mineral resources investment so as to make early achievements of their in-depth win-win cooperation.
Jean-Sébastien Jacques expressed his thanks to Guo Wenqing for his warm reception. He introduced the operation situation of Rio Tinto Group in 2019 and congratulated China Minmetals on its historical best business performance in 2019. According to Jean-Sébastien Jacques, in 2019, Rio Tinto Group achieves excellent results in various business indicators, continues to explore the market in China, and furthers the cooperation with China Minmetals. Especially, the joint venture—Minmetals Rio Tinto Exploration Co., Ltd. was established, creating favorable conditions for the two sides to deepen cooperation. In the new year, Rio Tinto Group hopes to further the cooperation with China Minmetals in iron ore trade and mineral resources exploration and development, thus to upgrade bilateral iron ore trade cooperation and to make effective breakthroughs in mineral resources exploration worldwide. Centering around the mineral ore trading center of 100 million-ton class in Caofeidian and international investment, Rio Tinto Group will carry out more effective communication and connection with China Minmetals to obtain fruitful results in reciprocal cooperation in the new year.
The two sides also discuss extensively other issues of common concern.
