Xu Xiangchun Attends ‘Summit on Support of Chinese Central SOEs for Macao Cooperation Platform’ and ‘8th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum’

  From May 30th to June 3rd, 2017, on the invitation of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council and China International Contractors Association, MCC Group Deputy General Manager Xu Xiangchun visited Macao to attend the ‘Summit on Support of Chinese Central SOEs for Macao Cooperation Platform’ and ‘8th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum’. Overseas Engineering Management Department Zhang Tong also attended the summit.

  This summit was hosted by the Government of the Macao Special Administration Region (MSAR) and organized by the MSAR Secretariat for Economy and Finance with the support of SASAC and the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the MSAR. Its aim was to give full play to the Macao Cooperation Platform between China and PSCs, and promote Chinese central state-owned enterprises with enterprises in Macao to enter Portuguese-speaking countries and join in the construction of China’s ‘Belt and Road’ initiative. The summit was attended by MSAR Chief Executive Cui Shi’an, CPPCC Vice Chairman and MSAR Former Chief Executive He Houhua, SASAC Party Committee Secretary Hao Peng, Central People’s Government Liaison Office Director Wang Zhimin, Vice Director Yao Jian, Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the MSAR Ye Dabo, Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs State Secretary Gao Dezhi and so on. It was attended by 24 central enterprises, 5 central financial enterprises, 5 private enterprises, several China-invested enterprises in Macao and enterprises from Portuguese-speaking countries. Meanwhile, officials from the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council and 14 central enterprise representatives including MCC visited the Macao Chamber of Commerce and held an exchange of views.

  The forum was held in Macao from June 1st to 2nd, 2017. It was hosted by the China International Contractors Association and Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, with the theme ‘common construction for multiple innovations, industrial linkage and sustainable infrastructure’. The 3rd China-Latin America Infrastructure Cooperation Forum was also held at the same time. This forum attracted more than 1,700 participants from 63 countries and regions. The participants included 57 guests at ministerial level. The scale and level of the forum set a new record. It was attended by 65 ENR250 international contractors, and 73 of the top 500 enterprises in the world also sent executives and representatives. A total of 32 international financial institutions including the World Bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Asian Development Bank, African Import-Export Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, China Development Bank and Export-Import Bank of China took part in the event. Representatives of over 30 international organizations and presidents of business associations in the industry, including the United National Development Program, United Nations Development Business, Ghana Contractors Association and China-Britain Business Council, also participated in the forum.

  During the above summit, Deputy General Manager Xu Xiangchun met Guinea-Bissau Ministry of Energy and Industry Minister Florentino Mendes Pereira and introduced the MCC Group’s overall situation, pointing out that MCC ranked 290th in the Fortune 500 in 2016 and 8th among the top 250 global contractors released by ENR. MCC is the world’s largest and strongest metallurgical construction contractor and metallurgical enterprise operation service provider, and the steel structure manufacturing enterprise with the greatest capacity in China. Xu Xiangchun also introduced the situation of MCC’s strategic reorganization with CMC, pointing out that following the strategic reorganization, CMC now has total assets of more than RMB 750 billion and operation revenue of RMB 430 billion. Minister Florentino Mendes Pereira introduced several ore resource development projects of Guinea-Bissau, welcomed MCC to participate in other ore resource and infrastructure construction projects, and will provide convenience and government support for MCC in its exploration of the Guinea-Bissau market.

  During his meeting with Burma Ministry of Construction (Vice Minister) General Secretary Kyaw Linn, Xu Xiangchun discussed Burma’s national road transportation scheme and said that the MCC Group will positively communicate with the Burma Ministry of Construction and National Development and Reform Commission, and make contributions to the national road transportation network planning and construction of Burma.

  Xu Xiangchun also held talks with Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs State Secretary Gao Dezhi’s Special Assistant Sergia Da Cunha Oliveira, Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute Deng Yongxi, Senior Business Consultant of the Brazil Sao Paulo Chamber of Commerce Liu Kun, Foton Vice President Chang Rui and so on, and exchanged views on enhancing national business cooperation.
