Guo Wenqing Visits Peru President Kuczynski

On November 17th, on the eve of the upcoming APEC Meeting, Peru President Kuczynski cordially met with China Minmetals General Manager & Party Committee Deputy Secretary and MCC President & Party Committee Secretary Guo Wenqing and his delegation at the presidential palace. Guo Wenqing was in Peru to inspect the Bambas Project and attend the APEC CEO Summit.

President Kuczynski welcomed Guo Wenqing and his delegation, and highly praised the achievements and economic growth effects in Peru as a result of the Bambas Project. He then pointed out that Minmetals has played an important role in the economic exchange and cooperation between Peru and China, and the Bambas Project has made great contributions to the economic development of the country. He added that the Bambas Project has recently met meet challenges for various reasons, and the Government will first solve the traffic problem from a long-term planning standpoint. It will complete the medium and long-term economic development plan for the communities around the Bambas Project, and implement it after evaluation in middle December. The related government departments will always fully support the project to ensure that there is no impact on its production and stable operation. He also invoked the practices of other mining companies in order to raise specific suggestions for strengthening community relations management in the high altitude mining area.

Guo Wenqing thanked President Kuczynski for his reception on the busy eve of the upcoming APEC. He said that the Chinese Government and Minmetals attach great importance to the Bambas Project as it is the window of Chinese overseas investment and the most important overseas mining property of Minmetals, and must therefore be operated well. He then explained that following the strategic recombination of the two Fortune 500 companies Minmetals and MCC, the development goal of the new China Minmetals is to become China’s first world-class metals company, and the Bambas Project is an important first step on the way to achieving that magnificent goal. He added that after thorough mining field inspections, Minmetals is full of confidence in the operation and management situation of Bambas, as well as its prospects. With the market downturn and increasing business operation pressure, the Bambas Company continues to actively fulfill the enterprise's social responsibility and greatly helps to improve the conditions in the community and the development of the economy, and he hopes that the Peru Government will firmly support the project.

Guo Wenqing then pointed out that after stabilizing the operation of the Bambas Project, under the planning and guidance of the Peru Government, Minmetals will actively develop such fields as infrastructure, real estate and traffic construction, look for new market opportunities, and take Peru as its strategic business support and continue to expand its business activities in Latin America. He also introduced the signing condition of the strategic cooperation memorandum of understanding between Minmetals and Peru’s Andean governments concerning infrastructure at the APEC CEO Summit.

Both parties then exchanged views on the Northern Peru Copper Project. President Kuczynski showed great interest in Guo Wenqing’s introduction of Minmetals’ strategic combination and new strategic positioning, fully agreed with his idea about Minmetals completing the Bambas Project first, taking root in Peru and continuing to develop in Latin America, and added that the government will comprehensively support Minmetals.

That night, Guo Wenqing participated in a small reception dinner for the APEC CEO Summit attended by Peruvian President Kuczynski, Premier Zavala and related government leaders.
