On November 8th, MCC President Zhang Mengxing met Deputy Secretary and Acting Mayor of Fuzhou City You Mengjun in Beijing. They held talks in a friendly and amicable atmosphere, and reached a consensus on deepening their strategic cooperation agreement and accelerating cooperation in such fields as sponge city technology, underground comprehensive pipe galleries, metro & road traffic, water environment treatment and large temporary housing, as well as the development of the port logistics industrial park, headquarters base, theme park and tourism island.
Zhang Mengxing first extended his thanks to the Fuzhou Municipal Government for its support over the years and expressed sincere greetings on behalf of President Guo Wenqing. He then briefly introduced the current situation of the MCC Group, pointing out that the two Fortune Top 500 companies of China Minmetals and MCC have carried out a strategic recombination in 2015, following which the New China Minmetals has total assets of over RMB 750 billion, and its capital strength and resource controlling power have increased sharply. At present, MCC is enjoying steady development in four business sectors: lump-sum contracting, real estate development, equipment manufacturing and resource development. As the national team of metallurgical construction, MCC has undertaken over 90% of the design and construction tasks of large iron and steel enterprises in China and over 60% around the globe. It is one of 16 central enterprises with real estate as its main business, as approved by the State Council SASAC. In terms of equipment manufacturing and the steel structure sector, MCC manufactures equipments in the three fields of metallurgy, mining and maritime work. It is the world’s largest steel structure manufacturing enterprise, holding rich reserves of such metal mineral resources as nickel, cobalt, lead, zinc, copper and iron in Papua New Guinea, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Australia, Argentina and other regions. Ranking fourth among central enterprises, it possesses 13 scientific research design units, 29 national research & development centers and key laboratories, over 53,000 scientific and technological personnel and over 18,000 effective patients.
In recent years, MCC has actively and successfully achieved transformation and upgrading, devoting itself to being ‘the national team of metallurgical construction, the main force of infrastructure construction and the pacesetter of emerging industries, taking the road of high-tech construction in the long term’. In 2015, MCC established the first domestic specialized pipe gallery company, founded the first domestic urban comprehensive pipe gallery industry fund of over RMB 100 billion and established the base of steel pipe gallery and concrete fabricated pipe gallery in Hengshui, which has successfully developed such solutions as the rust prevention, fire protection, seepage-proofing and service life extension of steel pipe galleries, thereby reducing the costs and shortening the working period. As the only enterprise in China with a theme park design and construction qualification, MCC has established strategic cooperation relationships with Dreamworks SKG, Lego and 21st Century Fox, successfully completing many large cultural and theme parks including Universal Studios Singapore, Shanghai Disney and Zhuhai Chimelong Ocean Kingdom, with Nanjing Dragon Nest, Huaian Journey to the West Theme Park and Indonesia MNC currently under construction. Successfully setting foot in the field of environmental protection, MCC has established the MCC Research Institute of Water Technology, giving it a daily sewage treatment capacity of 3.5 million tons. It has obtained the only patent for ‘Self-absorption hybrid aerating apparatus of black odoriferous water treatment technology’ in America. It also successfully designed the first domestic waste incineration power plant, and has subsequently designed, constructed and operated many waste incineration power stations in China.
Zhang Mengxing pointed out that Fuzhou City has wide development prospects and huge potential, and is an important region of MCC's market development. With a good foundation for cooperation, both parties can form a closer relationship. MCC has 14 companies doing business in Fuzhou, with total project costs of RMB 48 billion. He hopes that the Fuzhou Municipal Government will provide a bigger stage, adopt suitable business models, deepen the implementation of their strategic cooperation agreement and quickly promote cooperation in such large-scale projects as sponge city technology, underground comprehensive pipe galleries, metro & road traffic, water environment treatment and large temporary housing, as well as the port logistics industrial park, headquarters base, theme park and tourism island development. MCC will set up Fujian subsidiaries and forge a headquarters base in the City, becoming deeply rooted and pursuing development in Fuzhou.
You Mengjun first expressed his thanks to the MCC Group for its contributions to the economic and social development of Fuzhou City, then pointed out that MCC has a great influence on central enterprises. Particularly after its strategic recombination with China Minmetals, it has entered the first echelon of the Fortune Top 500, and its levels of strength, ideas, management and performance are increasing sharply. In accordance with General Secretary Xi Jinping’s requirements for ‘Constructing Coastal Fuzhou’, Fuzhou City is stirring up a new round of booming development. We have put forward the ‘solid and immediate’ working style, which is promoting construction in such fields as ports, infrastructure, water-logging and water-system treatment, the tourism island and the logistics park.
You Mengjun said that Fuzhou and MCC have a solid cooperation foundation and broad prospects. As a large central enterprise, MCC not only has advantages in capital, resources and technical management, but many advanced new concepts involving standing high and seeing further. Both parties should strengthen their communication, jointly expand their cooperation space and comprehensively deepen their cooperation on the original basis. He welcomes MCC to fully participate in construction in every field in Fuzhou City and hopes that MCC will make a project list. If so, then Fuzhou's relevant departments can hold a meeting for special study and promote the landing of their strategic cooperation agreement as soon as possible. Both parties can then carry out in-depth cooperation on such large-scale projects as the port logistics industrial park, traffic & municipal infrastructure, people’s livelihood, tourism and environmental protection.
