On November 7th, MCC President Zhang Mengxing met the delegation led by Hubei Yichang Municipal Party Committee Deputy Secretary and Mayor Ma Xuming. Both sides held a deep exchange and reached a consensus on signing an agreement concerning deepening their overall strategic cooperation relationship and enhancing their cooperation in such fields as municipal infrastructure, ecological environmental protection, urban underground comprehensive pipe galleries, sponge city and smart city technology, public service facilities, security housing and area development.
Zhang Mengxing welcomed the delegation of Secretary Ma Xuming to MCC and briefly introduced the basic information of the Group, pointing out that China Minmetals and MCC, two Fortune 500 enterprises, carried out a strategic recombination in 2015. At present, the total assets of the New China Minmetals amount to over RMB 750 billion and its annual revenue was is RMB 430 billion in 2015, representing a significant increase in capital strength and resource control power. He emphasized that MCC is currently developing steadily in the four business platforms of general project contracting, real estate development, equipment manufacturing and resource development. In the general contracting of projects, it has undertaken over 90% of domestic projects and 60% of projects worldwide. State Council Committee Member Wang Yong praised MCC as China's national team of metallurgical construction. In recent years, it has actively boosted its transition by depending on market requirements, and strongly expanded its non-steel industries, and its non-metallurgical revenue now accounts for roughly 80%. In addition, surrounding the country's 'One Belt and One Road' strategy, MCC also strongly exploits overseas markets, having undertaken cooperation projects with 48 countries in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa. In real estate development, MCC is one of 16 central enterprises taking real estate as their main industry with the approval of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council. It is currently principally engaged in high-end housing construction in such domestic first and second-tier cites as Beijing, Tianjin, Nanjing and Guangzhou, and it possesses relatively high brand awareness in the industry. In resource development, MCC has mining resources in such countries as Papua New Guineas, Afghanistan, Australia and Pakistan. In equipment manufacturing and steel structure, MCC engages in equipment manufacturing in the three fields of metallurgy, mining and ocean engineering, while also being the world's biggest steel structure production enterprise. Most of China's large-scale stadiums were built by MCC, including the Bird's Nest.
Zhang Mengxing pointed out that MCC takes being the 'national team of metallurgical construction, the main force of infrastructure construction and the pacesetter of emerging industries, taking the road of high-tech construction in the long term' as its new strategic positioning, and positively pursues transformation and upgrading. Particularly in the urban underground comprehensive pipe gallery field, MCC founded the first domestic specialized pipe gallery company and established the first domestic hundred billion-level urban comprehensive pipe gallery industry fund. Concurrently, MCC is the only domestic enterprise holding a design and construction qualification for theme parks, it has succeeded in completing numerous super-large theme cultural parks including Universal Studios Singapore, Shanghai Disney and Zhuhai Chimelong Ocean Kingdom, and such projects as Nanjing Dragon Valley, Huaian Journey to the West Theme Park, Indonesian MNC, Universal Studios Beijing and so on are currently under construction. In addition, MCC has succeeded in setting foot in the environmental protection field; it possesses domestic advanced river system treatment technology which has obtained a patent, its sewage treatment capacity has reached 3.5 million tons per day, and it has succeeded in designing the first domestic waste incineration power plant, as well as designing, building and operating a number of waste incineration power stations. Zhang Mengxing went on to point out that Yichang has been a historic and cultural city since ancient times. Today, as a deputy center city of Hubei Province, it has a large development area, reasonable industrial structural layout, high social and economic status and bright development prospects. MCC will give full play to its own advantages in design, construction, technology, funds and so on, and provide assistance for Yichang's urban construction and development in the future. The MCC Group hopes to form a strategic cooperation partnership with Yichang City.
Ma Xuming thanked President Zhang Mengxing for his enthusiastic reception, and praised MCC's fast development in recent years as the model of state-owned enterprises' transition and development, and declared it to be a national team worthy of the name. He then pointed out that Yichang is an important traffic hub city in the central region with a population of nearly 2 million and solid integrated strength. Its GDP in the first three quarters in 2016 was 8.8% and its economic power has been in the front rank of cities and regions in Hubei Province for many years. Due to its specific economic and geographical location, Yichang is also the deputy central city of Hubei Province. He stressed that as a node city in the middle and lower reaches of Changjiang River, its railways, waterways, highways and aviation should realize seamless connection. Facing the new comprehensive transportation system, Yichang's municipal traffic construction has large a volume demand and broad development prospects. The Yichang Municipal Government is willing to enlarge its cooperation fields and add chances for cooperation with MCC on the basis of the original foundation. For the next step, it will sign a strategic cooperation agreement with MCC and give strong support as always.
