On October 31st, China Minmetals General Manager, MCC Group President & Party Secretary and China MCC President Guo Wenqing met Yunnan Provincial Standing Committee Member and Kunming Municipal Committee Secretary Cheng Lianyuan and his delegation at the MCC Headquarters in Beijing. Both parties held talks in an amicable and friendly atmosphere, and exchanged views over fully deepening their strategic cooperation by promoting theme park construction, urban underground comprehensive pipe galleries and municipal infrastructure.
Guo Wenqing warmly welcomed Cheng Lianyuan and his delegation, and briefly introduced the historical evolution and current situation of the MCC Group. As the earliest construction force of the steel industry in China, MCC is the largest and most powerful contractor of metallurgical construction and service provider of the metallurgy industry around the globe. In 2015, the two Fortune Top 500 enterprises China Minmetals and the MCC Group implemented a strategic recombination. After deep integration, the new China Minmetals possesses a complete industrial chain channel including mine obtaining, survey, design, construction, operation and trade integration, and it is devoted to forging a world-class metallic mining enterprise group and being an investment pilot company of state-owned capital. At present, the new China Minmetals has a total of 240,000 employees and total assets of 750 billion. Its annual revenue in 2015 was RMB 430 billion, and its capital strength and resource control power have become remarkably improved. He stressed that MCC energetically promotes the strategy of being the 'national team of metallurgical construction, the main force of infrastructure construction and the pacesetter of emerging industries, taking the path of high-tech construction in the long term'. MCC has contracted the construction of over 90% of the domestic steel business and over 60% of the global steel business in the field of metallurgical construction, and it is devoted to forging a national team worthy of the name which can undertake the responsibility of guiding China's metallurgy to a higher level. MCC owns several double top-grade qualified enterprises with excellent technology and powerful strength in the field of basic construction, and it has quickly transferred its advantages in talents, technology and management in the field of iron and steel metallurgy for so many years into civil infrastructure construction. MCC takes the lead in the transformation of the field of iron and steel metallurgy, and high-end housing construction, large-scale venues and municipal transportation have developed into it strengths. MCC took the lead in establishing six technology research institutes concerned with comprehensive pipe galleries, smart city & beautiful village technology, sponge city technology, theme parks, water environment technology and the healthcare industry. Guo Wenqing pointed out that Yunnan is a large tourism province with an agreeable climate, a beautiful environment and powerful city attraction. However, its infrastructure construction is relatively weak. Its underground pipe galleries and road networks are in urgent need of being updated. Solving the problem of fragmented development will create a large development space in the future. MCC’s strategic positioning conforms with the future planning development of Kunming City. MCC is willing to carry out in-depth cooperation in such fields as underground comprehensive pipe galleries, expressways, rail transport, sponge city and beautiful village technology, real estate, municipal infrastructure, sewage treatment and waste incineration with Kunming City. MCC will give full play to its advantages in design, construction, technology and capital, become deeply rooted in Kunming to pursue development and complete development tasks with high quality, thereby making even greater contributions to the economic and social development of Kunming.
Cheng Lianyuan thanked President Guo Wenqing for his warm reception, then pointed out that with its agreeable climate, good location and powerful historical influence, Kunming is the hub and radial center of the southwest region to South Asia and Southeast Asia, and it plays an important role in implementing the 'One Belt and One Road' strategy. Yunnan Province has poor traffic construction and weak urban infrastructure construction, with a single industrial structure and sluggish economic development. As a large tourism province, Yunnan has no theme parks and lacks leading projects. Compared with the eastern provinces, there is a wide gap. He thinks that this gap creates opportunities. Kunming will vigorously adjust its industrial structure, take the lead in developing emerging industries, strengthen its urban infrastructure construction and focus on developing and forging the new areas and key areas of Central Yunnan Province in the future so as to help Kunming to enter a second growth period of high-speed development. He hopes that MCC will actively participate in the construction of urban complexes, underground comprehensive pipe galleries, theme parks, infrastructure construction and water environment treatment. The Kunming Municipal Government will continue to provide strong support for its development.
