On June 23rd, General Manager of the China Minmetals Corporation and MCC Group President & Party Committee Secretary Guo Wenqing met with Second Finance Minister of Sarawak Mr. Huang Shunge as he made a visit to MCC, as well as Handan Municipal Executive Deputy Mayor Chen Jun, Wu’an Mayor Wei Xuesheng, Hebei New Wu’an Iron and Steel Group General Manager Wang Wen’an and others. They held an in-depth discussion on jointly promoting cooperation on the Samalaju Industrial Park Steel Project in Bintulu, Sarawak, Malaysia, and reached an agreement.
President Guo Wenqing warmly welcomed President Huang Shunge and the leaders of Handan and Wu’an to MCC and then briefly introduced the Group's historical development and general information, pointing out that the MCC Group is the world's largest and strongest contractor of metallurgical construction and operation services; it has contracted over 90% of national steel projects and 60% of global steel projects, making it a worthy National Team of metallurgical construction. He also pointed out that both of the two recently-completed 10 million-ton steel projects, the FPG Ha Tinh Project and the Baosteel Zhanjiang Project, were designed, constructed, operated and maintained by MCC, fully demonstrating the Group’s first-rate competitiveness in the field of global metallurgical construction.
Guo Wenqing added that the MCC Group has more than ten large-scale projects under construction in Malaysia including the W Hotel, a landmark building in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. In addition, the 3.5 million t/a Malaysia-China Guandan Industrial Park Steel Project, which is being solely contracted by MCC and is soon to be commenced, is a landmark project of China-Malaysia cooperation in steel capacity and will have a great demonstration effect on implementing the 'One Belt and One Road' strategy. The MCC Group would like to conduct in-depth cooperation with Sarawak on the Samalaju Project and infrastructure construction in Bintulu so as to achieve mutual benefits, win-win results and joint development.
Minister Huang Shunge thanked President Guo Wenqing for his warm reception and briefly introduced the general information of the Samalaju Industrial Park Steel Project in Bintulu, pointing out that the rich strength of the MCC Group in technology, construction, talents and financing is admirable, and it is exactly what Sarawak requires. He hopes to conduct deep cooperation with MCC so as to further expand their cooperation field make greater contributions to the promotion of China-Malaysia friendship.
Handan Municipal Executive Deputy Mayor Chen Jun, Wu’an Mayor Wei Xuesheng and Hebei New Wu’an Iron and Steel Group General Manager Wang Wen’an indicated that, as one of the most important countries on the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, Malaysia has an exceptional strategic advantage for developing international capacity cooperation with China. As such, they would like to make joint efforts with the MCC Group to accelerate the process of the Bintulu Samalaju Project in Sarawak.
