Zhang Zhaoxiang Meets Micronesia Foreign Minister Lorin S. Robert

  On March 27th, China Minmetals Corporation Deputy General Manager and MCC General Manager, Party Committee Secretary & Deputy Chairman Zhang Zhaoxiang met the delegation of Micronesia Foreign Minister Lorin S. Robert at the MCC Headquarters in Beijing. Both sides held talks in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, and deeply exchanged opinions on further strengthening cooperation in such fields as highway traffic, urban infrastructure and energy.

  Zhang Zhaoxiang welcomed the delegation of Mr. Lorin S. Robert and briefly introduced MCC's basic information, pointing out that MCC is a large-scale central enterprise in China which ranks 290th among the Fortune 500 Enterprises. Long-span steel structure, large-scale stadiums, high-end housing, smart city & sponge city technology, urban infrastructure, highway traffic, sewage treatment, water environment treatment, waste incineration and so on have become MCC's backbone fields. MCC has businesses in over 100 countries and regions all over the world. It succeeded in building the first expressway in Sri Lanka and invested USD 2 billion in Papua New Guinea to build the project with China’s single largest investment in the South Pacific: the Ramu Laterite-Nickel Ore Project. MCC subsidiary MCC CERI and the Hong Kong Liantai Group have cooperated successfully on many projects in the South Pacific, greatly promoting local economic and social development, and accumulating rich experience. He hopes that Micronesia and MCC will establish good cooperation relations. MCC will make contributions to the economic and social development of Micronesia by adhering to its simple yet profound spirit of ‘Never delaying and never slacking’.

  Lorin S. Robert said that this year is the 28th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Micronesia and China. Benefiting from the creative assistance of the Chinese Government, Micronesia has ship routes connected to the outside world. The leaders of Micronesia and China have conducted deep communication on such issues as transport and climate change, establishing a friendly strategic partnership. Micronesia is advancing the progress of its national development and increasing traffic its infrastructure construction; it is willing to deepen cooperation with MCC and welcomes the Group to actively take part in the development and construction of diverse fields in Micronesia.

  The meeting was attended by relevant personnel from the Micronesian Government including Tony Ganngiyan, Carlson D. Apis, Vincent Sivas  and Peter Stan , Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China Department of North American and Oceanian Affairs Councilor Zhai Xingfu, Hong Kong Liantai Group Chief Executive Officer Chen Weili, MCC leaders Xu Xiangchun and Luo Shu, MCC related department principal Xu Yongjie, MCC CERI leader Shi She and others.
