And Meets with Formosa President William Wong, Vice President Duanhua Wong and Chen Yuancheng, Chairman of the Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corporation

On April 23rd and 24th, MCC Chairman Guo Wenqing paid a visit to the Formosa Plastic Group and met with William Wang, President of the Group, Susan Wang , Vice President of the Group and Chen Yuancheng , Chairman of the Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corporation. The two parties held an amiable talk, looking back upon their historical relationship and looking forward into a future of further cooperation. They also had an in-depth exchange of views on how to expedite the Ha Tinh Steel Project for a scheduled delivery and how to enhance future cooperation.
Guo remarked that as a large centrally administered corporation, MCC is the pioneer of PRC’s steel industry and contracts more than 90% of design and construction workloads for large steel companies, offering such services as surveying, engineering, construction, repairs and coordination. It is said that “China plays the leading role in the steel industry throughout the world, and MCC is the epitome of China’s steel industry”. Under the economic 'new normal', President Xi Jinping has called for centrally administered companies to become 'national teams' and gain more global influence. It is expected that in 3-5 years time, MCC will become a world-class steel giant through its outstanding core technologies, irreplaceable industrial chain and capabilities for continuous innovation. It will spare no effort to allocate human resources, material resources and finance to become a world-leading metallurgical enterprise and to lead China’s metallurgical industry to further advancement. In addition, it will also adopt its technologies and management to steel products and ultimately to different segments of the steel market.
Guo pointed out that the 2014 anti-China protests in Vietnam caused a stir in mainland China. The Formosa Plastic Group took active action in response to the disorder. Its principals paid three visits to MCC for solicitude and coordination, reflecting the fact that FPG is a world-class corporation ready to take responsibility and also reflecting its patriotism and brotherly affection towards mainland Chinese citizens. On this issue, the two groups shared the same goal and were closely related, although the aftermath remains to be properly handled.
Guo also pointed out that both of the only two 10 million-ton level steel projects in the world, the FPG Ha Tinh Project and the Baosteel Zhanjiang Project, are contracted by MCC. This demonstrates MCC’s competitiveness in the field of construction for metallurgical companies as well as FPG’s trust in MCC. Although the incident along with Vietnam’s particular geographical environment, climate and logistics poses challenges for MCC, the progress of the Ha Tinh Steel Project is reasonable according to the international standard for steel plant construction. With careful analysis, scientific planning and management, MCC can confidently assure FPG that the main work of the Ha Tinh Steel Project will be completed prior to October of this year and the plant will be operational in early March of next year. He expected FPG to continue its support of MCC.
Guo added that it is an MCC belief that an outstanding entrepreneur must have a clear conscience and that conscience is the supreme form of responsibility. Now FPG has supported MCC with the utmost sincerity and honesty, MCC will also spare no effort to support FPG. MCC will dispatch superb talents and work teams, overcome objective difficulties with subjective initiative and complete the Ha Tinh Steel Project on schedule. MCC will also repeatedly optimize engineering and construction so as to help Ha Tinh Steel become a world-class pacesetter in the steel industry. In addition, MCC will have some backbone engineering and construction personnel stay on after the plant is operational. It will also instruct MCC Baosteel Technology Services Co., Ltd. to dispatch professional teams to establish the MCC FPG Ha Tinh Steel Service Company to provide such follow up services as production, maintenance and coordination and ensure smooth operation for the steel company.
Guo pointed out that with previous cooperation, MCC has developed a profound friendship with FPG and work teams from both sides have also become good friends. He remarked that both sides should not only focus on current projects but also look to the future. While carrying out the steel project, both sides should further their communication and give full play to their own advantages in a comprehensive attempt to achieve a more in-depth cooperation.
William Wang extended his warm welcome to Guo Wenqing and his delegation and expressed thanks to Guo for his efforts in helping the Ha Tinh Project to resume. He also showed his gratitude and admiration for MCC for being able to speed up the schedule.
William Wang pointed out that both sides should cooperate with sincerity to ensure the completion of the Ha Tinh Project as scheduled and to show the world China's capability in the steel industry.
Susan Wang expressed the opinion that the Ha Tinh Steel Project is an epitome of cooperation between Taiwan and mainland China. He is impressed with MCC’s ambition and efforts to attain perfection. Moreover, MCC also stands ready to assume responsibility. It not only engages in construction but also helps the steel plant to be more competitive. It strives to build a world-class steel plant, which FPG considers important as it adds value to the project. He believes the follow-up services proposed by Chairman Guo are of immense importance to FPG considering the fact that assorted service suppliers are rare in Vietnam. It would be exceedingly important to the Ha Tinh Project in terms of healthy operation, continuous improvement and competitiveness enhancement for the abundantly experienced MCC to provide technical support.
Chen Yuancheng briefed the guests on the basic status of FPG and the Ha Tinh Steel Project. He added that in spite of efforts made by MCC personnel, the progress of the project still needs to be expedited due to some objective reasons including resources and logistics. He expected MCC to allocate such resources as manpower and equipment/tools more effectively in an attempt to complete the main works before the coming rainy season and to ensure that the project will be put into operation in March of next year as scheduled.
The meeting was attended by Zhang Mengxing, Chief Accountant and Chairman of MCC International, Xiao Xuewen, Chairman of the MCC CISDI Group, Tian Ye, Chairman of the China 19th Metallurgical Corporation, Zhou Qing, Chairman of MCC Baosteel Technology Services Co., Ltd., Wang Shilei, Chairman of Shanghai Baoye Group Corp., Ltd., Xu Yongjie, Director of the MCC Overseas Project Management Department, Fan Yaozhong, MCC's General Representative in Vietnam, Wu Guoxiong, General Manager of the Formosa Heavy Industry, Hong Chongfa, Senior Deputy General Manager of the Formosa Heavy Industry and Zhang Funing, Senior Deputy General Manager of Ha Tinh Steel.
