Guo Wenqing Meets with Mike Lodge, Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority

  On October 10, Guo Wenqing, General Manager of the group company and Chairman of MCC group, met in Changsha with Mike Lodge, Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority, who came to attend the third Conference of Contractors of the International Seabed Authority.

  Guo Wenqing welcomed Mike Lodge's visit, thanked the International Seabed Authority for its long-term support to China Minmetals, and made a brief introduction on the basic situation of China Minmetals. Guo Wenqing pointed out that China Minmetals is a metal mining enterprise group formed by the strategic restructuring of the former China Minmetals and MCC, two of the world's top 500 enterprises. Currently, the asset scale under management is 1.85 trillion yuan, with 200,000 employees and more than 80,000 professional and technical personnel. China Minmetals have numerous world-class mines globally, leading the field of metallic ore in creating the whole industry chain of resource acquisition, exploration, design, construction and operation to the circulation and deep processing, is moving forward to the title of "China first, world class" metal mineral enterprise group, setting solid foundation for the deep sea exploration and development.

  Guo Wenqing pointed out that seabed mineral resources are the common property of mankind. Only when deep-sea resources are fully utilized and developed scientifically can they create their due value and benefit all mankind. Minmetals is one of the most advantageous enterprises to realize the effective combination of onshore resource exploitation and deep-sea exploration and development. In the aspect of marine resources development and utilization, China Minmetals cultivated and formed a research team for long-term commitment to the deep sea exploration and technology development, of Changsha Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy is the earliest core backbone in China to have engaged in equipment research and development for deep-sea mineral resources development engineering technology. deep ocean mining technology center of state key laboratory in Changsha Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy also successfully unveiled today. China Minmetals has the confidence and ability to play a more important role in the exploration and development of deep-sea mineral resources, the research and development of engineering technology and equipment, and the formulation of international rules. It will further concentrate resources and increase input, and strive to achieve breakthroughs in major key technical fields and key equipment. China Minmetals is willing to participate more in a series of major activities organized by the international seabed authority, and hopes that the international seabed authority will give more support to Minmetals in acquiring deep-sea mineral resources and participating in the formulation of international deep-sea mining rules, so as to jointly accelerate the exploitation of deep-sea mineral resources.

  Mike Lodge recognized China Minmetals' efforts in exploration contract performance, high quality exploration report submission, marine resources development and technology research and development. He appreciated that China Minmetals has always been giving the International Sea Authority the support in such aspects as establishment of regulations and rules, and expressed thanks for China Minmetals holding the third contractor conference of the International Seabed Authority. According to Mike Lodge, the Contractor Conference is not only an important meeting between contractors and the international seabed authority, but also an important platform for mutual communication and cooperation between contractors. China Minmetals has strong technical capability and talent team, and has achieved commendable achievements in the exploration of deep-sea mineral resources in a short period of time. The development speed is encouraging. In the future, the international seabed authority will strengthen communication and exchanges with China Minmetals in order to jointly promote in-depth cooperation in deep-sea mineral resources development, engineering equipment technology research and development and rule formulation.

  The two sides also exchanged ideas on other topics of common concern and souvenirs.
