Carl Frappuolo once defined “knowledge management” as a process to combine the wisdom of the team members in order to enhance the abilities of emergency-treatment and innovation, highly recognizing the importance of knowledge management.
CCTEC Engineering Co., Ltd. (CCTEC) has always attached great importance to knowledge management and has been using it as an important tool to accumulate and to pool the experience of both experts and employees to form a kind of common wisdom.
CCTEC is engaged in continuous casting of steel. And external training courses can hardly meet its training demands. Thus, CCTEC launched its “Knowledge Sharing Program” in 2008, attempting to take the actual demands of employees as a breakthrough to motivate and to mobilize the human resources of all sectors and fields and to enhance innovation.
The Program will, taking into consideration the company’s overall planning and strategy, arrange different training courses for different posts, such as project management and quality enhancement. And the trainers are all professionals from its corporate personnel. Training is carried out in different forms such as lecturing, discussions, workshop and case analysis.
Several knowledge sharing training programs have taken place this year, including “the Calculation of Parameters” by Pei Guoliang, Deputy Engineer-in-chief; “Career Planning” by Teng Shoushi, Head of the Administration Department; and “Feedback on the Design of Equipment Supervision” by Zhou Jing of QA department. “Feedback of on-site construction’s problems” will soon be launched and Zeng Xianglong, who has abundant experience in the field, will be the trainer. This kind of knowledge sharing has strengthened the communications and exchanges among different functions and it represents an effective way to combine the intelligence of CCTEC staff.
This internal training system is an important attempt to enhance training efficiency and it provides a good platform for “internal trainers”. During the courses, the trainer can share her or his personal experience or viewpoints with the trainees; and by collecting and carding his teaching materials, the trainer’s knowledge will also be enhanced and systematized. Thus, the trainer can enhance her/his abilities including inter-personal communication.
Knowledge Sharing Program, as a supplement to the existing training, is an effective way to give full display of its employees’ information and intelligence and it is an important tool for knowledge management. It is believed that more and more CCTEC staff will be attending this supplementary training program, which will greatly improve their skills.
